A COMPANY WITH HERITAGE

It has been more than half a century since Hermann Wein laid the cornerstone for our company.

THE FOUNDING

In 1966, the pioneer Hermann Wein, from the small village of Freudenstadt-Musbach, had three things: An old family recipe, a smokehouse and the idea to produce the best Black Forest ham in Germany. Did he ever think that his business would one day become Germany’s market leader in Black Forest ham?

SUCCESS IS LOOMING

Hermann Wein’s ham became a real sensation overnight. Three additional smokehouses had to be built, just one year after the company was founded, in order to satisfy the high level of demand.

VALUES AS A BEDROCK

Hermann Wein’s little smokehouse quickly grew into a successful company. Eventually the time came to hand over the reins: In 1977, Hermann Hofer took over the company management, with support from Eberhard Kappler as of 1985. Since 2011 – two generations later – Hermann Wein’s grandson Andreas Hofer, together with Eberhard Kappler, has been leading the Black-Forest-based ‘Genussmanufaktur Wein’. Team spirit, artisanal skill and a love of the product remain at the core of the ‘Genussmanufaktur Wein’ today.

TRADITION MEETS FUTURE

Enduring success and the ever-growing international demand have made the next step possible: Since February 2026, the factory has belonged to Bell Deutschland, which will continue to run the gourmet manufactory and preserve its artisanal quality.

Tradition remains alive – but with all sights set on the future.
